So since Aries is already known to be able to do all of these things, I'm pretty sure I'm going to get him at least a brevet. I am not big on competitions or public events at all so I'll probably coerce Shai into trialing him. Aries has been tested on gunfire, but never while he was biting the decoy, so we'll see about that... He's also never heeled with a muzzle on but that one should be fairly simple.

All in all RIngsport is pretty much tailor made for Bucket's type.

Fixed up a track today. It was damn hot out there. I need to aim for earlier/later times to do this. Lux doesn't get real into tracking. She tracks me, she tracks me not. Food works well. I have to admit, today was the best we've done... and it was lmae. You, um, read me.

Colored rubber bands are cheap and make good markers for "scent pad" and "left turn - here." I like them. I made the last leg of the track crooked... whoops. It didn't seem to make much of a difference though. She still followed it. What what.

Just made a Sch I track today. I need to get her to understand some key stuff first... she's got to learn to just follow one track, and like I said, today was the best day - I'm sure it's because I used food in every step. It probably took me half an hour to lay the track. Lame! So, of course, by the time the thing's set (just about an hour after I started putting it together) it's hot as Hell and...

She started out pretty well. Did a nice job on the scent pad. She was actually really calm and focused. She took her time and I let her sort it all out. The track started with a few bumps. I'm thinking I should probably put more food in the beginning, just to get her going. I need her to understand the difference between the scent pad and the track - ie. "we're actually following something now," as opposed to, "walk around and get a good whiff."

It didn't take long for the heat to really start disrupting performance. She was nice and tight on that first corner - did a very nice job! I laid it out well, I think. Used lots of food about two feet before, into, and about two feet after the turn. But she got around it, and not five paces or so later, her head came up due to the heat... and it probably happened about 10 times after that. I don't want to get her used to bringing her head up and taking breaks on her own accord.

We got to the first article and she downed right there and watched me. It was awesome. I'd shown it to her yesterday. I've been using pillow cases as "articles" but I really should use something smaller that will blend into the grass more. Socks or little pockets of scrap material would work really well. I've been putting food into the article. It's working.

The second corner sucked. I don't think I laid this one out as well. She went out and got lost, and then just stood there, panting. Combining everything, maybe I put too much food in the last article, the heat was just awful by now, and because of a and b, she was running on empty. Bah. No more mid-day tracking until she gets it down.

The second article was a joke. She bulldozed right over it, and she was so heat soaked that when I stopped her, she just laid down on the spot. I got her back to the track and made her do it over, but man... there was no drive in that. It was just base, primal obedience. I lead you. I tell you do this. Rah.

Biked home. Planning on doing it again this EVENING when it's COOL outside... eh. Obedience at Petsmart and later while the second track is setting.

I've got an open day. I'm aiming for two sessions! Woot. Join me guys! :D
